Universities at Medway Music Society (UMMS)

We have a jazz band that meets every Monday from 5pm-6:30pm in the seminar room on the ground floor of the Medway Building.  New members welcome anytime, just turn up.  We played at Artsfest at the Canterbury campus last year and will be playing there again Summer 2009.  There will also be other gig opportunities.

Also on a Monday night from 8:30pm onwards there is the open mic night in Coopers where you can sing with an acoustic guitar or just bring along an instrument and jam.  On December 15 we will be holding our Christmas party, open to members and non-members alike which will hopefully be a big acoustic jam session, we will probably bring our african drums along so everyone can join in.  The 'Rockaoke' (like Karaoke but with live musicians) is getting ready and will be running on Monday nights soon.

There is a gospel choir at Greenwich University, details to follow.

Every Tuesday from 1pm, there is The New Music Group, also in the seminar room on the ground floor of the Medway Building.  African drums are provided and you can bring any instrument you like as the music is diverse and improvised and changes from week to week.

There is a guitar group just starting up, a possible drumming circle, a hip-hop masterclass, a radio station, podcasting and other new ideas.   Contact us for more details.  There is an UMMS Facebook group, please join it if you would like to keep up to date with news and events.
