What is UMSA?
UMSA stands for the Universities at Medway Students' Association. UMSA is the representative body and service provider for all students studying at the Chatham Maritime campus. You are automatically a member of the association if you are a registered student of:
The University of Greenwich
The University of Kent
Canterbury Christ Church University
Mid Kent College
What does UMSA do?
UMSA provides representation, activities and services for students at the Medway campus. All of the information about the things that we offer can be seen on the website. All of our services are run by our team of committed (and friendly!) permanent and student staff.
Who runs UMSA?
That's easy...its members! Students studying at the campus elect their own representatives (the Executive Committee – or the Exec for short), who decide the direction and focus for the association. You can find out more info about the Exec and the way in which they are elected if you check out the Representation section of the site.
How is all this paid for?
The association is funded by the three Universities and the Colthat have students studying on the Chatham Maritime campus. Each institution pays an appropriate share to the UMSA fund according to the amount of students they have studying on campus.
How do the other students' unions fit in?
The students' unions of Greenwich, Kent and Christ Church work closely with the students and staff of UMSA to deliver excellent representation activities and services in Medway. Although students studying in Medway are welcome to use the students' union services offered at the other campuses, the other students unions will be working with UMSA to make sure that they can provide the same quality in Medway.
All partner students' unions are affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS), and all UMSA members all entitled to those benefits. To apply for an NUS extra card then please go to www.nusextra.co.uk and select your University / College and select the delivery destination as Medway!
