In-form Blues bounce back up to 3rd

TWO second half goals from Ross Carmichael saw Portland United battle back against a gritty Lymington side to return to third spot in the table.

THE pre-game build-up was disrupted when captain Lewis Whyton was summoned to hospital where his wife was giving birth to a new baby boy. This led to a call-up for Alex Godfrey with Max Buckler reverting to centre-back. This could have a been a factor as the visitors snatched an early opener through Charlie Willet.

They held the lead until just before the hour mark when Carmichael thumped home a towering header from a corner. The winner came in the 81st minute – again from the head of Carmichael – who this time found space at the back stick. Portland, now back up in 3rd spot in the table, visit mid-tablers Horndean on Saturday.
