MARTIN Grier picked up both the Summer singles and doubles trophies in the final competition of the season at the Bridport & West Dorset Indoor Bowls Club.

Leading 15-11 in the singles against Paul Hallett, Grier found himself three shots down on the next end, but drew shot with his final wood to keep the advantage, before going on to record a comfortable 21-12 victory. He also teamed up with Margaret Pestelleto take the title with a runaway win over Barbara Jenkins & Hugh Rees.

The rookies final was fiercely contested between Les Heath and Martin Waters. It was 6-6 early on before Heath shot ahead 14-6 ahead, but then had to fend off a fight back from Waters before taking the title.

It will be a sad start to the winter season for the club as they will miss the presence of probably the most well known bowler in Dorset, Max Dare. Max has played more than a 100 times for Dorset but has sadly been struck down with Motor Neurone disease as just 59 years of age.
