THE HIGHLY-rated Clay, who has had such an influence on the Tigers from his deep-lying midfield role, bagged his first goal for the club since his summer move from Tiverton Town, and this was enough to see of the challenge of their mid-table hosts Budleigh who were playing just their seventh league match of the season.

The win sees Axminster, now unbeaten in three, in good spirits heading into Saturday’s Devon Premier Cup tie against Plymouth Marjon (2pm).

The visitors have had a tough start to their season in the SWP Division One (west) and have won just three of their 14 matches and currently lie down in 14th spot in the 18-team division.
