Education Officer - Ella Copeland

The Education Officer is responsible for Academic Campaigns. They work closely with Course Reps and work to address a whole range of academic issues including feedback, library provision, additional course costs, quality of teaching and a whole lot more.
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Hi my name is Ella Copeland and I am the Education Officer.
In this role, I would champion the rights of students on the Medway Campus, ensuring that students are satisfied with the academic side of life at university, and acting as a voice for students, both to UMSA and the Universities at Medway.
I plan to raise the voice of students at Medway on issues that affect the student body both nationally and locally, such as the current campaign against Education Cuts. As Education Officer, I hope also to work closely with the student representatives on Campus, offering training, help and advice in approaching members within the University regarding study.
As a member of UMSA, I also hope to raise the voice of our rather quiet ‘student association’, hoping to give UMSA more independence against the ‘parent’ unions of each university. I also wish to promote more student involvement within UMSA, through greater publicity and a greater use of student feedback.
In addition to focusing on Education issues, I will co-ordinate the campaign for more social space on campus, in line with the current student organised campaigns, and will utilise my connections with campus magazine ‘The Medwire” to keep the student body informed and involved in all issues regarding our student union.
Key points I will focus on over the next year are:

• A greater focus on the role of student representatives, with more training and advice available

• Making student executives have a greater role within the running of the campus, and a greater showing within the student body

• Campaigning against cuts to Education

• Raising the voice of UMSA, and the student powers within it

• Campaigning for more social space on the Medway Campus

• Keeping the student body informed and involved in issues regarding our student union
Remember, students on this campus come first. UMSA should represent the students, not the other way around.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Hey there!
My name is Paul Dunne and I’m once again running in the UMSA Student Executive elections. Having previously been elected onto UMSA I’ve set about campaigning for a better campus, only to throw my hands up in frustration at the slow and complicated bureaucracy that is our beloved Students’ Association. After battling through the system for over a year, it’s time for a change: it’s time to fight for a better system.

The Medway Campus must get a real Students’ Union!
-Run by the students & for the students
-With full-time Student Officers rather than part-time
-With all students on the Exec being from the Medway campus
-With true independence from Kent Union, who currently employ UMSA staff

We need a new social space!
-No more Freshers’ fiascos where people can’t fit into the student bar
-A second student bar/club
-An area to relax, eat and study
-Space and a stage for student events
-Potential crèche space

I mean to make the library a real student hub by getting student-only noticeboards put up in the entrance.
Students come first!
I will ensure the student body will lead UMSA policy and properly hold it to account:
-General Assemblies & Student Referenda will be put in place
-I will expand and protect student publications, allowing them the freedom to criticise UMSA should they so wish.

Further I will continue to fight Education Cuts and higher tuition fees!
Last but not least I will continue my campaign for better transport & parking and in expanding student events and entertainment.
Please get in contact, I love to hear from students – look out for all UMSA officers on campus and do come and say hi!
If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to email Paul

Hi My name is Aishah Khan I am 19 and a first year law student who is studying to become a barrister at the Medway campus for the University of Kent.

I am currently, the first year student rep for law, whilst also being the lead recorder at Medway, a member of the law committee and the president of the Asian Society. Being an active role in all these sectors of university in my opinions proves I have the skills to be the representative for Kent and that I care as a student about making the university a better place and making the university work for students.

I am a good leader and work just as well in a team, I am punctual and committed to everything that I do. For me personally the role of the representative will be to make sure the issues that need to be pressed and taken further are and that the voice of every student, no matter how small is heard.

I will give 100% to the job and make sure I meet every need I could of the students and would try and make sure everyone at the university felt like their voice and opinion mattered.
