Hi my name is Ella Copeland and I am the Education Officer.
In this role, I would champion the rights of students on the Medway Campus, ensuring that students are satisfied with the academic side of life at university, and acting as a voice for students, both to UMSA and the Universities at Medway.
I plan to raise the voice of students at Medway on issues that affect the student body both nationally and locally, such as the current campaign against Education Cuts. As Education Officer, I hope also to work closely with the student representatives on Campus, offering training, help and advice in approaching members within the University regarding study.
As a member of UMSA, I also hope to raise the voice of our rather quiet ‘student association’, hoping to give UMSA more independence against the ‘parent’ unions of each university. I also wish to promote more student involvement within UMSA, through greater publicity and a greater use of student feedback.
In addition to focusing on Education issues, I will co-ordinate the campaign for more social space on campus, in line with the current student organised campaigns, and will utilise my connections with campus magazine ‘The Medwire” to keep the student body informed and involved in all issues regarding our student union.
Key points I will focus on over the next year are:
• A greater focus on the role of student representatives, with more training and advice available
• Making student executives have a greater role within the running of the campus, and a greater showing within the student body
• Campaigning against cuts to Education
• Raising the voice of UMSA, and the student powers within it
• Campaigning for more social space on the Medway Campus
• Keeping the student body informed and involved in issues regarding our student union
Remember, students on this campus come first. UMSA should represent the students, not the other way around.
