The Student Executive Committee is a democraticaly elected group of students who represent students from the partner universities that are based at the Medway Campus.
The committee meets regularly to discuss local and national student issues and meet regularly with university staff to ensure that you get the best student experience. they also run regular campaigns that anyone can get involved these range from academic campaigns such as improving library facilities or feedback on your work. Welfare campaigns that explore issues like student safety or healthy living as well as joining national campaigns such as the NUS fund our future campaign against a rise in tuition fees.
The Student Executive Committe is elected in the second term of the academic year.
There are 7 part Time Officers and there is also three full time officers from each of the partner unions (Christ Church, Greenwich and Kent).
How Can I Become a Part Time Officer?
Any current student studying at the Medway Campus regardless of which university you are registered with can run in the election for four of the part time positions. These positions are:
- Education Officer
- Events and Entertainment Officer
- Student Activities Officer
- Welfare and Campaigns Officer
The next three positions represent students on specific university courses studying at Medway and are only open to students registered with a particular institution i.e.
-Christ Church Rep (Open to registered Christ Church students only)
-Greenwich Rep (Open to registered Greenwich students only)
-Kent Rep (Open to registered Kent students only)
How Do I Become a Full Time Officer?
UMSA doesn’t have it’s own full time officers. Instead it works with the three partner union officers who help make decisions for the Medway Campus.
One full time officer from each of the partner unions sits on the UMSA executive committee. These are know as Link Reps. Though they are not based at Medway, they do visit a few times a month to talk to their students, attend UMSA committtee meetings and sit on all the important academic, financial and strategic committees that make big decisions.
All students at Medway have the opportunity to run for a full time officer position with their parent union.
Being a full time officer is a full time job. They generally work a 36 hour week, though most will do more hours than this and are paid. Those wishing to run for these positions can either do so at the end of their course in their final year or take a break from their studies by deffering a year.
