About Partner Unions?

What is a Partner Union?

Every student studying at Medway Campus is also registered with a Partner Union. Which of these unions you are a member of depends on where your course is registered. So for example if you are studying a University of Kent course then you are a member of Kent Students’ Union.
The partner unions work with UMSA to ensure that you are getting the best possible student experience. UMSA acts as the first port of call for Medway based students and maintains regular contact with partner unions and their committees to ensure your issues are being addressed.

What are the Benefits of the Partner Union?

The biggest benefit is there is a whole load of extra activities you can get involved with. It may be that you want to make new friends away from campus and join a sports club or society at the other union. You can also run for elected positions on the partner unions committees.

For more about your partner unions. Read the information below or contact brendan@umsa.org

Sabbatical Officers
The Sabbatical Officers are your elected representatives, who have either completed their degree or elected to take a sabbatical year off from their course. There are four full-time paid sabbatical posts - a President and three Vice Presidents. Each Vice President is assigned to one particular aspect of the Union’s activities: Campaigns & Representation, Education & Welfare and Student Activities. The President is the figurehead for the organisation and the first point of contact for many external organisations; their role is also to co-ordinate the activities of the sabbatical team. The Sabbatical Officers work closely with a team of paid permanent staff, which is lead by the Chief Executive.

In addition to these roles Sabbatical Officers are members of the Union’s Trustee Board, together with other Trustees.  As members of the Board, they are responsible for overseeing the management and administration of the Union and undertake the duties of a Trustee in accordance with the Union’s Constitution.

Sabbatical Officers are elected to support you as students, taking up problems that face students with the University’s governing body and campaigning with NUS (both nationally and regionally) on issues that affect the lives of students. The University’s senior managers and the Students’ Union have a very good working relationship, and between them they are usually able to resolve most of the individual or collective problems that students face. Remember the Sabbatical Officers are here for you at all times. Come and see them, talk to them, get to know what they do and participate in your Union.
