EXTRA funding is needed to secure this year’s Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic.
The club behind the annual beach spectacle says it is £5,000 short of the £20,000 in needs to stage the July 2017 event.
Weymouth Volleyball Club says it has many sponsors, including the RAF, which is the main donor, but needs a little more help to secure the tournament.
Said Graeme Sawyer, Director of the Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic: “The Classic is a fabulous success story for Weymouth and a fine accolade to the commitment of Weymouth Volleyball Club, an army of volunteers and partnership with the council’s events team…
“As the event relies totally on volunteers and sponsorship funding we are very keen to talk to local business who would like to be involved and support the 2017 Weymouth Beach Classic.”
The annual sports event has been a feature on Weymouth Beach for more than 30 years, making it the country’s oldest and most popular Beach Volleyball Championships.
It is scheduled to take place from July 27th to July 30th when more than 10,000 spectators and supporters are expected to visit Weymouth during the two days.
Visitors are offered free grandstand seating on two show courts and eight outside courts, live music and commentaries.
The annual Weymouth Classic attracts the top 100 two-a-side men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams from across the country, with a number of top class overseas players adding to the line-up.
The Classic also includes The Battens Charity Volleyball event on the July 27th with more than 250 local people taking part and raising funds for local causes. To enquire about supporting the 2017 Weymouth Beach Classic please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
