University staff and students are invited to attend the second annual Universities at Medway Boat Race on Saturday, 3 May.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural race, student rowers from Kent, Canterbury Christ Church and Greenwich will once again take to the River Medway for what promise to be two close-fought and exciting contests.

This year, the University of Greenwich will have both a men's and women's crew and will be hoping to build on the success of last year's men's victory!

Rowers will tackle a course of approximately 2.6 kilometres, between Cuxton and The Esplanade in Rochester. The best place to view the races is from the part of The Esplanade adjacent to Hathaway Court, which also marks the finishing line. The post code for the site is ME1 1QX.

The action starts from 12.30pm on 3 May, with a preliminary race by members of Medway Towns Rowing Club, followed by a three-way ‘fours’ race between women's crews from all three universities. Kent’s students are the proud holders of the women’s trophy, following last year’s victory against Canterbury Christ Church.

The final event of the day is the men’s ‘eights’ race between Greenwich and Kent, with Kent looking to gain revenge after last year’s narrow defeat.

The race has been organised by Universities at Medway Students’ Association (UMSA), who will also be providing food and beverages from their marquee along The Esplanade.

Student rowers have been trained by coaches at Medway Towns Rowing Club are now in the final stages of their preparations.

All staff and students are welcome to attend and cheer on the crews, and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the day.
