Matt Cheung The Medway campus has recently experienced a high number of bicycle thefts and this trend has been occurring throughout the Chatham Maritime area.
Since the start of October there have been 6 thefts reported. All have occurred overnight or at weekends and/or not been in a designated bicycle parking area.
All cyclists are advised to be extra vigilant by using the parking areas provided, ensuring that good quality locks are used, and not leaving bicycles on campus during the evening or weekends.
Campus Security and the Campus Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) are very much aware of the current situation and are undertaking additional checks and patrols of the areas in which bikes are parked.
The police are providing a free Bike Marking Service at Blake Building 12:00 to 14:30 Wednesday 7th December to mark any bicycles which staff or students bring along.

Matt Briggs I’ve got an idea, once I’ve found a good route to Canterbury and back (avoiding the A2 which is the way I’ve cycled already, fast but not pleasant), it would be an interesting experience to do a group ride. Assuming we go to the Canterbury campus, it would be around 60 miles and I would estimate the ride taking 7 hours [A fairly slow average of 10mph and a 1 hour break at Canterbury] and we would have to leave about 9:00 to get back to get back before the light completely fades (so lights would be preferable). Not sure on which day would be best to do the ride (Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday?).
How does this sound? Anyone interested?
I haven’t met anyone from the cycling group yet so I’m not sure about what kind endurance people have, or just what kind of speeds and distances people like doing. If this idea doesn’t appeal, please tell me so I can think of and test out something else.
