Cliff fall warning

VISITORS to the coast to the East of Weymouth are being asked to steer clear of a landslip near Bowleaze Cove.

A crack which appeared a year ago has now developed into a landslip.

It lies on the South West Coast path between Bowleaze Cove and Redcliff Point and initially saw a drop of about a three feet (pictured last year) – but has now slumped by up to 30 feet towards the sea.

Dorset County Council say the landslide is likely to continue moving.

Sam Scriven, the county council’s Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site earth science manager, said: “As always, we would encourage people to not stand near the cliff edge, where the rocks might still be unstable, and take care when exploring the beach below as rock falls will be more common as a result of the slip.”
