Big turnout for pram race

MORE than 150 people came out to support teams entering the Marquis of Lorne Boxing Day pram race.

The annual event, organised by landlords Trace and Steve Brady, was the quickest they have ever had in their seven years at the Nettlecombe pub.

They said: “There was a brilliant turnout for the Boxing Day pram race.

“Such a lovely sunny start to the day, but unfortunately by 11.30am the rain started, but despite this we had seven teams to run the course.

“The race started just after midday from the pub and competitors ran towards the manor to turn left towards the dairy then another left back into Nettlecombe square, then back up the hill to the Marquis to a roar of cheers from the hundreds of supporters. The loop is just under a mile long.

“This year’s race was the fastest that we have seen in the seven years that we have been at the Marquis, with the winning time of around three minutes and seconds separating the second and third places.”

The winning team was Henry’s Hero Wagon with Henry and Waldo, followed by Super Stephens, made up of Ben, Iris Oscar and Arthur, and in third place was Tom and Patricia with their ‘Cheetah’ pram.
